EVE BEFORE MY EXHIBITION OF MY STILL LIFE PAINTINGS WAHHOOO!!

Hey guys...it's Loren here.  Yipppeee...wahhooo and holy moly do I want to share my excitement and thrill about the art reception of my still life oil paintings at Christopher's in Malvern, PA tomorrow night!   I can hardly stand another minute until tomorrow.  I am busting at the seams!!

Words can't express effectively how I much anticipatory enthusiasm and joy I am feeling about my show and gathering with lots of folks tomorrow night  For all of my readers and friends  that can not attend, you will be in my thoughts.  I wish I could share the original paintings with everyone that crosses my path in life. But unfortunately, I can not so I can offer you the opportunity to see them on this site.  Scroll up to tab bar and click on STILL LIFE button and there you can see most of the works that are in the show. 

                                     
                              TO DRESS OR NOT TO DRESS!!

Well, for this show I have been noticing that I am pondering much more what to wear and how to present myself.  I finally got the things I needed for my outfit and I have to say I am happy to have found the perfect skirt and blouse for this show  Leggin's as well.   I don't like to over dress because I am always hot and have trouble with too many layers..  Shoes are also always a challenge since I have leg and back problems as I mentioned a couple posts back.  It's hard for me to stand very long especially in one place all night.  So, I have to say that I have my outfit squared away.  Earrings, necklace and purse as well.

                                        
                             EXHIBIT PROJECT  YIKES!!!

As usual, I always have a project that I am working on for the people who attend the reception and I am pressed for time.  I hope I can get it done tonight.  My printer is not working right and I think I need to get them printed possibly FEDEX KINKOS.  It is one of my old stomping grounds when I first journeyed into art licensing.  I used to do a lot of my work there because I needed the xerox copier in between changes in my drawings.  Sometimes I worked there until 1:00 a.m. in to the morning!  I got to know the employees there and they stayed out of my way and helped out if I needed.  Well, anyway  My project takes a printer and some time to cut up the project  pieces.  So, if I get it done , that's great.  if not, I won't sweat the small stuff.

Well, I have to run for now to get my project done and also I am visiting with our neighbors.  If you are attending the show, drive safe and I will be happy to see you.  Thanks for reading this post.  I want to say one more time, Wahhooo again!

RECEPTION FOR STILL LIFE EXHIBIT COMING AROUND THE CORNER!!

 

Hey guys...it's Loren here.  Just wanted to give a heads up that the reception for my still life paintings  is coming around the corner Monday November 14th 6 pm - 8 pm at 

Christopher's: A Neighborhood Place 335 E. Kings Street Malvern, PA 19335.  Come on by and enjoy some wine and interesting conversations with some fine artists and people who are surely interested in the arts of all kinds.  Writers, musicians, visual artists, painters, illustrators, guitar makers are just some of the areas of art disciplines that will be at the show to chat with about this and that!

The show is open until November 30th if you want to take in a different time to visit the artwork.  You can also view some of the exhibited works here on my site.  Just click on the still life button in the tabs bar.

THE LANDSDALE ART FESTIVAL

Hi, there. I wanted to share some photos from the Landsdale Art Festival.

I really want to thank my husband Paul and my brother Ken for helping me make the event happen.  They were both an enormous help and without them, I wouldn’t have been able to assemble everything, and carry everything to the show. My husband Paul was so dear and he helped me build the wooden easels, from sawing, drilling and painting them.  He is such a 'gem’.   Ken had his truck, and even so, we were packed solid with easels and boxes of paintings.  Ken was so awesome because he made me easels out of PVC piping and along with the wooden ones I made with my husband, they all looked so great.  The paintings sat on them so nicely and they really allowed them to shine.  He also made me a rack to display my small paintings.

The day was so beautiful nevertheless, when we arrived on the site, it was windy.  It was something that we didn’t expect.  But thanks to my brother and my thinking, we attached some really large white sheets (purchased many years back, preparing for this possible event) to the top of our tent with Ken's nifty plastic ties.  He also attached them to the bottom of the tent legs on two sides.  This really cut down on the wind and it gave the tent a really awesome feel to it when the sun shone in so bright. It had this heavenly, ethereal ambiance to it when the sun was shining in it. It was an unexpected joyful effect.

My friends Rebekah and Nerida also came to show there support.  They got lost on the way to the show so thank goodness they made it there.  They brought me a small birthday cake and a birthday gift.  It was very sweet and I was thankful for having them as my friends.

Well, the day flew by and it seemed that just as how soon we put everything up, we had to take everything down and pack up.  So pack up we did and off to home we went.  Good-bye Landsdale.  See you again next year.

NEW 'on my EASEL' PAINTING FEATURED

Hey, guys it's time for a post about a new painting. It's long over due.  This time I had a lot of trouble deciding what to write about mainly because I have so many paintings that I've done in various mediums and techniques, that I was not quite sure what I should tackle first. I am somewhat stuck. I am tossing back and forth with what paintings I have listed in my etsy shop and on Facebook.  Since I began painting before I began this blog, I have a lot of work to talk about.
In the past year I have been working mainly on abstract experimental painting and still life paintings.  I like to work on both because it keeps my skills up and I am constantly learning new things.  I also find new ways to manipulate the paint and brushes.  I think I am getting better but hey, who am I to judge?
I'll let you be the judge.
Well, let's talk about this new painting...

                                   'HEADING TOWARDS THE LIGHT'

Just recently, I sold this painting, YEAH!!! and I would like to talk about it before it leaves it's current home.  The title of this painting is 'Heading towards the light'.  It is 24 x 30 and oil on canvas.  I really love the 24 x 30 size canvas to paint on.

I began this painting shortly after I began painting abstract back in the beginning of 2012. I think it was my 3rd or 4th painting.  I still felt new to abstract and unsure of my direction when I stumbled upon this painting style.

I began this painting using oil paint and by laying down blocks of color in Cerealean Blue and Ultramarine Blue squares in the bottom left hand corner using a palette knife.  I used various shades of these colors next to each other.  I dragged the paint around the canvas and dropped the palette knife down on the canvas where I decided the colors should go.  To merge colors, I dragged the color to the left side into the color in the right side with the flat part of the knife.  I used a lot of Alizarin Crimson as the dominate color around the canvas and especially on the top.  The Crimson color worked it's way into the shape that is painted in a curve.  This is a contrast to the square/ blocks of color.  The curve in Crimson sort of tucks you into the yellow areas of light almost like it is hovering over the yellows like a archway to a bridge or some kind of animal pulling your eyes into the painting.

There are two areas of light, in the blues on the bottom and in the yellows on the middle right side.  The Cadmium Yellow really brings your eye in to it and it looks as if you are heading towards the light starting at the bottom left corner of blues and moving up into the yellows.  In some ways. it reminds me of a landscape sunset with water on the bottom. Do you see it??

Although there are many colors in this painting, when I look at it, I see Crimsons and Yellows.  The other colors kind of recede for me.  They are secondary.  I wanted to show the interaction between many colors all grouped together on one surface.  I had a vision in my mind and at the same time I wanted to just let the colors flow out of me.  I didn't want to judge it while I was painting.  The title came to me right away and I knew what I wanted to say with it.

Well, I have to say "good-bye" to this piece as it will be leaving me soon.  I know it will go in an  awesome home, so I am so happy about that. PAINTING A SIMPLE DISGUISE

This is one of my favorite paintings because I love the different angles and the subject matter. I am also smitten with the colors.  It's a 24 x 30 size painting.  I like to use this size for class paintings and sometimes when I am painting on my own.  The title, 'The Simple Disguise' is somewhat of a mystery to this painting.

I remember when I was beginning to paint this piece and I was really charged up and looking to seriously express something.  I just didn't know what.  At the moment that I put the paint to the scary white canvas, I was a woman on a mission, a rebel without a cause ( can a woman be a rebel, I'm not sure?) but anyhow, as I worked the paint around, I found my groove. I became aware to the idea that I was able to make a bunch of sense from the nonsense I was feeling.  This painting asks you to look closely at it and it just might help answer it's meaning.  I don’t like to talk about the deeper meaning to my work and how it reflects my secret world or life, as we all don’t.  So, you won’t find the answer to the exact meaning of this painting, however, since I am talking about nonsense, it brings me back to the title of this painting, 'The Simple Disguise'.  It is such a topic of conversation for people who view this work. "What does it mean"?  But the curiosity is not whether I have a simple disguise or if you might have one?  It’s about why we have one?  I have come to believe that we all do but in different ways.  I am reminded of a song by Bruce Springsteen titled, ‘The Brilliant Disguise’.  His lyrics in this song speak to me and make me think about the public face and the private face that we all might have.  Again, do all of us really have a disguise?  I'm not so sure how many of us do, but I'll bet that it is more common than people believe or will admit.  And as for my disguise, keep looking because it might reveal itself to you when you are not expecting it to.  But for now, I think it is something for me to think about and to ponder, as I always do. I search for the simple disguise in myself often and try to figure out how it does it's thing in my life. How about your disguise and it's purpose in your life?

FINDING MY VOICE BLOGGING & NEW PAINTINGS FROM FANTASY COLLECTION

I wanted to share with you that I am learning that as I proceed with my blogging, I am finding that I am having trouble focusing in on my creative voice.  I seem to be all over the place lately, and unable to focus on one thing.  I've been wanting to do everything my heart conjoures up creatively and I realize that there is not enough time or energy to literally do everything I want to do.  I wonder and am baffled how people are just able to focus on one thing and stick with it for along period of time?  What I've been discovering is that the more in truth I seem to be, the easier the words and thoughts seem to flow.  They also seem to make sense to me however,  I fear the truth in art and in blogging, in many ways because it is such a vulernable and scary place to be in.  I want to share so many things through my art, but at times I am afraid of what the "truth in art" really means.  I hope that as I continue to blog and create there will be a merging of the two and a sense of focus will awaken in me.  I wait and hope to find a song in my soul.

NEW PAINTINGS FROM FANTASY COLLECTION

I've wanted to post up some of my paintings that I've done over the past 3 years related to my Fantasy Collection.  I have been adding paintings to the collection and I am finding that my style seems to change from textured to smooth and back to textured again.  My subject matter and theme has seemd to change as well as style. 

I thought I'd post my older paintings up a little at a time, meeting up to my most recent work.

MORE STILL LIFE PAINTINGS ON MY BLOG

These are two paintings below,  that I've done in a yellow ochre, black and burnt sienna color palette.  I've mentioned that I love this color palette.  It is limiting in some ways and freeing in other ways.  When I only have three colors to use, there is not much thinking or decision making that bogs me down.  I've found that each color has a purpose and needs to be there when I am only using three colors.

NEW STILL LIFE PAINTINGS ADDED TO BLOG

I wanted to share some more paintings that I've done.

I hope you enjoy these paintings below in yellow ochre, black and burnt sienna.  Intially, when I started some of these paintings I did not like the color combination.  I've always created art that is full of color and saturation so these colors were a real challenge for me.  Now, I love this way of painting.  I love seeing if I can truely represent the colors of the still life I am looking at with just the three colors

Hello, and welcome to my blog.
Well, I have finally posted some paintings on my blog. I wanted to post them as a group on my Portfolio page, however I had to load them one at a time.   So, to view them, go to Portfolio and scroll down the page. They are just some of my paintings in still life subject matter. I will be posting more paintings soon and they will be more still lifes and a whole bunch of fantasy paintings.

Hopefully, I will be able to figure out how to put my paintings up in a group. Until then, I will post them up one at a time. If anyone knows exactly how to do this, please fill me in. I will be so grateful!
